The 2013 X-Blades National Touch League draws the best players in Australia together and it appears it attracts some of rugby league’s top identities as well.

Former New South Wales State of Origin captains and NRL players Brad Fittler and Trent Barrett paid a visit to the BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour to watch some of touch football’s elite go round.

The pair, along with NSW Rugby League general manager Geoff Carr and other rugby league delegates, were in Coffs Harbour to launch the City-Country Origin match, which will be played at the BCU International Stadium on April 21.

Country Origin coach Trent Barrett said they stopped over to have a sneak peek at the facilities and watch some of the action at the NTLs.

“We play a lot of touch at training so it is always good fun,” Barrett said.

“It’s good to see so many of the girls playing these days we need the girls involved in the game as much as we need the blokes. Touch footy is a good vehicle to promote rugby league as well.”

Country will be hoping to get some revenge over City in the Origin match as the team from the big smoke were victorious in last year’s match played at the Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium in Mudgee.

“We [Barrett and City coach Brad Fittler] will both be able to pick good squads, for City and Country, and it is only five weeks away so we are both looking forward to it,” Barrett said.
